Carbon Reduction Plan

Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Xpertex Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040 – with an aim to achieve this nearer 2030.

Baseline Emissions Reporting

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions
reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year:
2022
Covering Period:
From 01/01/22 to 31/12/22
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations

As per the GHG Protocol and requirements of the PPN 06/21 the Xpertex Limited carbon footprint baseline and subsequent reduction plan have been developed using the financial consolidation approach. The period used for the baseline is 2022. 22

Xpertex’s CRP in line with PPN06/21 includes data in addition to that reported for the SECR, ensuring a stated position that fully reflects the requirements of the procurement policy note.

  • Scope 1: Direct GHG emissions from owned or controlled sources
  • Scope 2: Indirect GHG emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, steam, heating, and cooling
  • Scope 3: Fuel & energy-related activities
  • Scope 3: Upstream transportation and distribution
  • Scope 3: Waste generated in operations
  • Scope 3: Business Travel
  • Scope 3: Employee Commuting
  • Scope 3: Downstream transportation and distribution
Total Baseline Year Emissions:
57.42 tCO2e
Scope 1:
0.6 tCO2e
Scope 2:
3.9 tCO2e
Scope 3:
Category 6 – Business Travel – 29.2 tCO2e
Category 7 – Employee Commuting – 19.2 tCO2e
Category 9 – Downstream Transport & Distribution – 4.52 tCO2e
Total: 57.42 tCO2e

Emissions Reduction Targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets:

  • 100% of electricity and natural gas consumed by Xpertex to be certified green
    energy by 2023.
  • Install electric charging points at our Welwyn Garden City office
  • Introduce fully electric site vehicles by 2023 and all fleet to be self-charging
hybrid vehicles, as a minimum, by 2025.
  • Increase hybrid working for office coworking – reducing commute to work
    emissions by 40% by 2023.
  • Collaborate with our vendor and distributor partners to support their 0% nonrecyclable
packaging to landfill objective by 2030.
  • Improve the granularity of unit specific carbon footprint and logistics carbon
    offset schemes in place.
Carbon Reduction Projects

Current Energy Reduction Initiatives:

  • Certifications and Accreditations:
    • We aim to achieve ISO 14001 Environmental Management accreditation in early/mid2023.
  • Removal of single use plastic cups and bottles across all Xpertex offices in 2023.
  • Installation of daylight controls for lighting, reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.
  • Introduced an Electric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice scheme in late 2022

In the future we hope to implement further measures including, but not limited to:

  • Certifications and Accreditations:
    • Gain ISO50001 Energy Management System by 2027.

  • Employee Commute – Following the pandemic we have reviewed our hybrid working models to increase hybrid working for our office coworkers this involves the following:
    • Increase hybrid working for office coworkers reducing commute to work emissions by 40% by 2023.
    • Monitor, report and offset with green energy, homeworker generated consumption by 2025
    • Further incentivise our existing cycle to work scheme

  • Upstream and Downstream Transport & Distribution – Work with our supply chain, in the first instance, to improve the granularity and specific carbon footprint reporting of our transported products.  This will enable more accurate data and a more targeted approach to managing and reducing this subset of scope 3 emissions.

  • GGR Offsetting – Although every effort will be made to avoid, reduce, and substitute emissions in adherence with the Netzero principles and guidance we acknowledge that there will come a point where purchasing approved offsets will enable us to reach our Netzero target.
Declaration and Sign Off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors at Xpertex.

For the avoidance of doubt, as Xpertex are a wholly owned subsidiary company of Exponential-e, the Exponential-e board have also approved this plan. They have their own Carbon Reduction Plan they manage on an annual basis.
